This 1970 exhibition commemorated the opening of the permanent Art Gallery at the University of California, Irvine. Included are Lichtenstein's interpretations of Monet's serial Haystack and Cathedral images. This exhibition also included images that draw somewhat from the 1930s' style heads from artists such as Alexi Jawlensky. Like many artists before him, Jawlensky forms a short dialogue with his forbearers. Using images well-known from the annals of art history, the artist reinterprets them, and makes the images his own.
